Mad Men Challenge - Emerald And Burgundy Joan Inspired Dresses

Hello Dear Readers! 

These have been some crazy couple of weeks.. Lot's of personal things happened but since they are a bit sad, I will spare you the details for now. As far as sewing goes, here are my entries for Julia Bobbin's Mad Men Challenge. The pattern is my own, self drafted, and inspired by two evening dresses of Joan. They are almost the same, except some design details and finishing. Both have been sewn using a lot of couture elements (underlining, catch stitching, inner support) but that is not the greatest thing about them. The real thing I am proud of is that you are looking at two complete "Make Do and Mend" garments. Both are recycled items from my travels in India about 15 years ago. Does that make them vintage? :)

היו לי כמה שבועות מטורפים לגמרי, לצערי עם כמה בשורות עצובות, אבל אני אשמור אתכם מזה בשלב זה. אני לא ממש מתה על הפרדה מוחלטת בין האישי ומה ששייך לבלוג, אבל עדיין לא עליתי על דרך המלך לשילוב. אני הרי רוצה להלהיב נשים ישראליות אינטלגנטיות בדבר התפירה, אז מה שייך פה הצד העצוב של החיים?
בכל מקרה, אם את קוראות את הבלוג הזה כבר כמה זמן, אתן בטח כבר מכירות את נושא האתגרים התפירתיים. זו שנה שניה שמתקיים לו הMad Men Challenge, כאילו אני זקוקה לתמריץ בשביל לתפור בסגנון זה.. אבל בכל זאת ניסיתי לאתגר את עצמי והצלחתי, אני חושבת. מעבר לעיצובים וגזרות - מעשה ידיי, מדובר בשתי שמלות ערב העשויות על טהרת המחזור. הירוקה היא סרי ישן שהבאתי איתי מהודו לפני כ15 שנה (בחלק הזה אני מקללת ברוסית ביני לבין עצמי) והבורדו היא חיים חדשים שנתתי לחצאית טיבטית מאותו הטיול. מענין, האם זה הופך אותן לוינטאז'?

Have you seen this image of Joan? It's pretty rare out there in the web, and that's cause it's taken from a promo shot to one of the season's openings (if there's a true madmen devotee here, she'd know which one). My dress is made from an old Indian sari (that mom tried to throw out many times..). It was a challenge to cut around the holes, but the beautiful emerald silk was worth it. The dress is underlined with grey poly-organza (I kept this a low budget project) and lined with green satin (from sheets I have brought that time from India too). Can you believe I once slept in satin sheets? I must have thought I was Maharajah. 

השמלה הירוקה עוצבה בהשראת התמונה הזו של מיס הולווי, הלקוחה מאיזה פרומו לא פופולרי במיוחד ברשת. בכלל מרבית השמלות הכי מדהימות של ג'ואן הן מהפרומואים, אנ לא מבינה למה קריסטינה הנדריקס לא לוקחת אותן הביתה או לפחות מבקשת ממעצבי התלבושות שישחזרו לה אותן בכמה העתקים. זה מה שמרלין מונרו היתה עושה בזמנה, היא היתה דורשת לקבל את השמלה מהסט ואז לוקחת אותה לחייט שישחזר אותה בכמה צבעים ובדים שונים. ( שימו לב, דברי חוכמה נדירים פה בין התמונות..) 

Anyway the fashion fabric is a bit transparent, and the layers give the silk some depth. The bodice is fitted, with a front seam (from what I could tell, same as Joan's dress) and has an extended gathered shoulder line, that can be worn on and off the shoulder. Skirt ends a bit below the knee, and has a back slit. It has a back lapped zipper and some hook and eye inner support (see photos below). I wont lie, I am very proud of it.

כמה מילים על התפירה. נתחיל מהעניין של המחזור. המחשבה שעומדת מאחורי הפרויקטים האלה היא להחזיר לחיינו קצת מאווירת הצנע של אמצע מאה קודמת - (חפשו את make do and mend כדי ללמוד על כך עוד, או שצפו בפרק השלישי של הsewing bee הבריטית. אם אתן לא יודעות במה מדובר כנראה שאתן לא עוקבות אחרי בפייסבוק וחבל :)) בשתי מילים, המלחמה אילצה את הנשים להיות מאוד יצירתיות בתפירתן. ברור שכולן כמעט ידעו לתפור (ולסרוג!), וכך דאגו להראות אופנתיות ולהלביש את משפחתן, אך בתקופה הקשה הזו, כשכל הגברים הלכו למלחמה ולא היה כסף לקנות בדים, המושג של "להכין יש מאין" (תרגום חופשי שלי) הפך להיות פופולרי מאין כמותו. נשים הכינו שמלות ממפות שולחן, חצאיות טוויד מתוך מכנסיים של בעליהן ואפילו ג'קטים מחויטים ונשיים מאלו של הגברים. הממשלה תמכה ופרסמה ספרונים ועלונים שיתנו לנשים רעיונות ל-DIY של תקופת המלחמה. יש לי את אחד מהספרונים המקסימים האלה בבית, הוא מלמד איך לתקן בגדים ולהיות יצירתית בכל הנוגע לחומרים (כזה).

  

The burgundy dress was inspired by this image of Joan. She wore that gorgeous evening dress to have dinner with her asshole husband, remember? For the fabric I cut an old Tibetan wrap skirt of mine. I admit that I hate throwing things out, cause I always end up wishing I haven't! I thought of making pillow covers out of this one, but when I saw Joan's dress, I had an idea of using is as a wearable muslin. Well it turned out to be a dress on it's own, underlined with nude cotton, this linen-silk mix (I am totally guessing here) looks really nice. I tried it in an above the ankle length, and I really like it.. 

מעבר למחזור של הבדים, שתי השמלות נעשו על טהרת התפירה העלית (טוב, כמעט. על כך בפוסטים הבאים). אחרי שהבנתי איך אני רוצה שהגזרה תראה, גזרתי קודם את הבטנה (זו השכבה הפנימית יותר של הבטנה, שנקאת באנגלית - underlining, והיא נתפרת כשכבה אחת עם הבד החיצוני) ואז את הבד. השכבה הפנימית נותנת חוזק ותמיכה לבגד, ובמקרה של השמלה הירוקה גם משחק גוונים מעניין. שמלת הבורדו היתה אמורה להיות דגם נסיוני, אבל היא נראתה כ"כ טוב שזכתה לקיום משל עצמה. לירוקה הוספתי גם בטנת סאטן נעימה, שגם היא, תאמינו או לא נעשתה מסדינים ישנים שהבאתי מאותו הטיול בהודו. אני לא מאמינה שפעם ישנתי בתוך סדיני סאטן ירוקים. בטח חשבתי שאני מהרג'ה.

This was actually the first version of the pattern, and how I envisioned Joan would look standing. Later I found a detailed image of that dress and it turns out it is actually a wrap dress, with a bit of sarong type skirt. I am making it too (found an even more precise fabric while visiting my old closet, in a form of a Tibetan dress. I really can't believe I actually wore stuff like that once. I was a total hippy.)

הירוקה עשויה ממשי בגוון אמרלד , והבורגונדי - אני לא יודעת מה זה הבד הזה, אבל הוא נראה כמו תערבות בין משי פראי לבין פשתן או כותנה. מרקם מעניין, ראו למטה. עשיתי כמה שינוים עיצוביים בין הגזרות, שהעיקריים בהן הן האורך (תגידו, קוראות אופנתיות שכמוכן, מה אתן אומרות על אורך מעל לקרסול? ) ומיקום הרוכסן. 

Here it is with a vintage brooch. I tried it on with a red rose, it also looks cool, more Spanish in nature..:) The couture insides look like this. The dress is not lined, but it's fine, I think many times underlining is enough. There will be a detailed post on that soon. 

שני הרוכסנים נתמכים מבפנים ע"י החברים האלה, איך קוראים להם בעברית? וו ועין? (גוגל טרנסלייטור הבוגדני). בגלל שהשמלה צמודה למדי בחלק העליון, הרוכסנים עובדים קצת כמו מחוך (עדין ביותר) ומחזיקים צורה.

 I made a side invisible zipper for the burgundy dress, since it's very fitted there is a waist stay and some hook and eyes to help the zipper. For the green on I used a cotton hook and eye tape I cut and sewn behind the lapped zipper in the back. All the seams are overclocked and catch-stitched to the underlining to help them lay flat. 

A few tips I have to share from this challenge:

1. Be creative and resourceful! If you don't have the right fabric, don't run and buy it, maybe it's hiding in your own closet. The satisfaction is beyond imagination and these old clothes will thank you (seen "toy story"?) and so will the environment.

2. Don't be afraid to make your own patterns. Study the design elements, think how do you imagine the pattern would look like and use your sloper or an old pattern that fits well to experiment flat pattern making. Use a muslin and a mannequin to drape if you prefer it.

3. Try underlining instead of lining. The process is faster - both layers are sewn at the same time and it's easier to adapt the size in case you loose or add some inches to your figure.

4. Sew flat! For the same two reasons - it saves time and you can easily alter the side seams if you'll ever need to. Plus it's easier!

5. It's very hard to take pictures on your own. 

כמה דברים שהיתי רוצה לחלוק איתכן בעקבות הפרויקט הזה:

1. היו יצירתיות ולא צרכניות! אם אין לכן את הבד המתאים, אל תרוצו לקנות, בדקו אולי הוא נמצא בחלק האחורי של ארונכן. עקבו אחרי לוחות הפינטרסט שלי כדי לקבל רעיונות מגניבים לDIY ומחזורים.

2. אל תפחדנה לעשות גזרות משלכן. בסכ"ה מדובר בחתיכת נייר שאמורה אח"כ ליצור צורה תלת מימדית בבד. אם יש לכן גזרה שמתאימה לכן, או שיש לכן ספר שמלמד איך להוציא גזרה- אתן חופשיות להתנסות ולשחק באוות נפשכן. אני מתכננת לכתוב בהמשך על כל מיני דרכים מגניבות להוציא גזרה ויש הרבה:)

3. חשבו יעיל. נסו לתפור בטנה פנימית במקום חיצונית (ראו את הנקודה הזו באנגלית אם זה לא ברור). הדבר חוסך מלא זמן ומאפשר תיקונים מהירים למידה בשלב מאוחר יותר.

4. אל תקשיבו להוראות. מרבית הספרים ילמדו אתכן לתפור קודם את החלק העליון כולו ואז לחבר אותו במותן לחלק התחתון. אני מציעה לכן לנסות לחבר חלק קדמי לאחורי- באמצעות תפרים צדדיים. הדבר חוסך זמן, קל יותר ומאפשר לשנות את המידה של השמלה בקלות, אם אתן כמוני- ומתרחבות או מצרות בהקפים מדי עונה.

5. מאוד קשה להצטלם לבד. 

Thank you Julia Bobbin for making this challenge yet another year:)! Mad Men is my most favorite show (at least fashion wise) and almost all Joan's dresses have to be recreated (especially those in promos..)  So - many more Mad Men challenges to come, hopefully!

טוב, אז נאמר שלום לעת עתה. מקווה שנהניתן (אני יודעת שהקוראות העבריות שלי אכן קוראות את מה שאני כותבת, וזה מאוד מחמם את ליבי), ומי שחדש/ה מוזמן להצטרף לקוראים, אני מנסה לאסוף כאן שבט קטן, בכל זאת.

בעלי נמצא עכשיו בLA, עם הסרט המקסים שלו, אז למי שיש קרובים שם, אולי הם יצליחו לתפוס אותו. הסרט מסיים את הסיבוב שלו בתי הקולנוע בארץ (אני יודעת שלא פרסמתי פה, לא יודעת למה, לפעמים לא נראה לי נכון לערבב את החיים האישיים שלנו פה, אולי זה טעות) אז אם הוא עדיין רץ במקום מסוים, ואתם רוצים לדעת לאיזה בן אדם אני נשואה, חפשו את "איגור ומסע העגורים", של יבגני רומן.

בנתיים שלחתי אותו אתמול למסע קניות בסדקיות הלוס אנג'לסיות, שלמרות המבחר הרב, אולי תשמחו לשמוע שהן נראות ומרגישות כמו אלנבי שלנו. ככה שלא כל דשה של כל שכן ירוק יותר:)

My "Emerald Green Dress" is In Jade! :) שמלת "האמרלד" שלי היא בצבע ירקן

Just a quick post to let you know about my progress. I finished the dress- on the outside, still have the lining, facings and hemming to do. Sorry for the dark-ish photos, that's all the romantic lighting we have at home.. The process was lots of fun, very creatively freeing so to speak. Pattern making is so much fun, much more appealing to me than following a ready pattern.. Some people are just bad at following orders..:) 

Thanks to Zoe from So, Zo, What Do You Know I now know that the tone of green I am using for this version is called Jade and what do you know - it is also from a jewel family. I love jewel tones, on me or in my apartment  and after having made a little research I came to a conclusion that a. these are the most flattering tones for brunettes, b. these colors hug the female curves in a most seducing way (that is my re-framing for the usual "slimming" verb, which I in my opinion is a part of a misogynistic discourse)  , and c. they work best with the clean line designs I love most.

So having found out this Jade too is a jewel tone, I now feel less guilty for not making it in emerald  (I ran out of fabric I was planning for. actually, not true I didn't buy enough. one of those rare moments of trying to save.. never works for me.) In this cotton version I decided to let go of the fishtail godet, it was too stiff, and left a nice back slit. 

But enough with the spoilers! Have a great week and I'll "see" you soon. Don't be surprised to see another post from me during the day, I have a few drafts laying around, which I think reached their time to see the world.

פוסט מהיר, רק לעדכן אתכן על בהתקדמותי. סיימתי את השמלה "מבחוץ", נשאר עדיין לטפל בבטנה, עיבודים ומכפלות. (מצטערת על התמונות הקצת כהות, זו כל התאורה הרומנטית שיש לנו בבית ..)

התהליך הפעם היה ממש כיפי, יצירתי ומשחרר. למרות שיש לי אוסף נאה של גזרות מוכנות בבית, אני תמיד נהנית יותר להתחיל מרעיון ו"ליצוק" אותו לחומר, מאשר לעבוד על גזרה מוכנה הדרשת מעקב אחר הוראות בלבד. אבל זו אני.. לטוב ולרע.

הודות לזואי, מ-So, Zo, What Do You Know, אני יודעת עכשיו שהטון של ירוק שאני השתמשתי לגרסה זו נקרא באנגלית ג'ייד (ירקן בעברית) ואתן יודעות מה, גם הוא שייך למשפחת צבעי אבני החן (aka jewel tones). מצאתי שאלו הם הצבעים שאני באופן טבעי נמשכת אליהם הכי הרבה ו"הפתעה גדולה" הם גם המחמיאים לי ביותר. מחקירה קטנה של הנושא גיליתי שמדובר בצבעים שטובים עם הברונטיות, הנראות הכי טוב עטופות בגווני אבני חן.. אני אוהבת את הרעיון , אתן בטח יכולות להבין.גם אמרלד הוא צבע של אבן חן שבעברית נקראת - ברקת, והיא יקרה אף יותר מיהלום.

מעבר להטבה עם הברונטיות, מדובר בצבעים המחמיאים ביותר לגוף הנשי ולקימוריו (אם את אישה עם היקפים נדיבים ואינך רוצה להסתתר עד סוף ימי חייך מאחורי שחור, תעשי חיפוש מהיר לjewel tones בגוגל ולכי לבחור לך שמלה באחד מהם). 

ומעבר להכול, הצבעים האלה פשוט נראים הכי טוב עם העיצוב הנקי שאני אוהבת. 

בקיצור עכשיו אני מרגישה קצת יותר טוב עם הבחירה של הבד, שהחליף ברגע האחרון את ירוק הברקת, אשר הסתבר כי לוקה בחסר בערך במטר.. (כן, קצת כעסתי על עצמי אפשר להגיד.. קניתי מעט מדי בד באחת הפעמים הבודדות האלה שהחלטתי להיות חסכנית. אף פעם לא עבד בשבילי) בגרסת הכותנה הזו החלטתי בסוף לוותר על הגודה- זנב הדג החמוד, כי הוא היה קצת נוקשה מדי, והשארתי שסע נדיב. אבל מספיק עם ספוילרים! שבוע טוב ואני "אראה" אתכן בקרוב. אל תבהלו אם פתאום תראו עוד פוסט ממני במהלך היום, יש לי כמה דברים כמעט מוכנים במגירה שהגיע זמנם.

The Red Wiggle Dress - Gertie's New Book For Better Sewing

This is my first version of the Wiggle Dress from Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing. 

זו הגרסה שלי לשמלת "נענוע" (aka -the Wiggle Dress) מתוך הספר - Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing. אני כותבת את הפוסט הזה בנתיים רק באנגלית , מכיוון שרוב מי שיתעניין בפירוט יהיה ככל הנראה שייך לקהילה הבינלאומית. אך אם בא לכן להשתתף בדיון, אתן רוצות שאתרגם את הpattern review- בבקשה, תשאירו תגובה, אני ממש אשמח (!)

Pattern Review: The Red Wiggle Dress - Gertie's New Book For Better Sewing  

Pattern Description: from the book- "Here is a dress that's meant to show off your curves, yet you'll still be office appropriate  The sheath style, kimono sleeves, boat-neck front, and a V-neck back are all borrowed from a time when work attire was a lot more exiting than today.." I made this version to wear to our friend's wedding in Paris, so it was upgraded into a Joan Holloway.  I think Joan would actually easily wear this one to work too, maybe just for a good enough reason .. :)

Pattern Sizing: I am size 8 (bust)-10 (hips) in Gertie's chart (yes, and me like it)).
Actually the fact we have a similar body shape helped a lot, since the pattern almost did not require any fitting adjustments. I took off about half an inch length in the waist, and add a bit more ease in the belly area (midway between the waist and the hips).

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? 

Yes it did. I was pretty amazed to try the dress for the first time, cause I haven't made a muslin. I guess the fact it's very fitted makes you see the shape right away. 

Were the instructions easy to follow? 

Yes, mostly. At first I got a bit stressed out since I only found some pattern pieces on a page. The usual story with me- missing the small print. Most of the patterns are printed out on a few sheets, and it says which in a little box on the garment page, under supplies. 
Other than that the instruction worked for me almost all the way through. I used Gertie's blog tutorial with for a more detailed gussets instructions (it has bigger pictures), but it was only since it was my first time doing that. I made the dress in the second version already and didn't even need the instructions anymore. 
I did a little change there- didn't feel the need to transfer the stitching lines to the right side, i just pined the organza there, just around the lines and stitched on the wrong sides (I think that's also Gertie's technique from the Starlet Suit Jacket course, she used on bound button holes)
One thing I really missed here were some instructions on the lining. I could not find any reference else where to making a lining for a dress with underarm gussets. Since I didn't believe you have to make the whole organza strip of fabric-gusset procedure again on the lining, I just left the sleeves unlined for this version. 

If anybody knows what to do with the lining in this case- please let me know:), I finished the second version and it's still unlined..

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? 

Well that's easy- I love the pattern, the fit is "mine", this is a classic Kimono sleeve, that can be used over and over in many variations.. Whats not to like? :) 

Fabric Used: Red wool crepe I brought back from Toronto. I had 2 yards, but it was enough, may be cause I'm a bit shorter than Gertie. I lined it with some satin quality and a bit stretchy fabric, that feels like rayon. The stretch makes the lining more comfortable to wear, and the satin feels pleasant against the skin.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: 
*** For this version I changed the neck line into a scoop neck, for a more evening look. This was easy (I just followed the new line of the front bodice neckline to draw the new facing. BUT (And Gertie talks about that in the book) if you do that- be sure to STABILIZE the neckline seam with some good organza stripes or a ready made stabilizer.  It is not enough just to make a stabilizing row of stitching  I did that and had to fight the gaping quiet a lot later. With my second version (soon to be posted) I did follow the more strict instructions and it worked.

Would you sew it again? 
Hell yeah, already did. Post about it soon.

Would you recommend it to others? 
Yes definitely, if you like this style.

I have to say a few words about this lovely blogger, that I feel so grateful to. As strange as it sounds to me now, there was a time in my life when I was pursuing  this hobby of mine  ALL BY MY SELF, not aware of the the internet sewing community. My knowledge came mostly from reading old fashion books and collecting vintage patterns and sewing books (in any language I could put my hands on). I loved my interest but mostly felt a bit alone..:(

Stumbling across Gertie's blog was a big breakthrough for me. I was amazed to see another person so passionate about an interest similar to mine. She was smart and funny and feminist and talked about sewing with great enthusiasm and intention to detail. Through her blog I discovered many other wonderful "sewing enthusiasts" and decided to open my own blog, to be able to communicate  share ideas with the English and the Hebrew speaking folks out there. Meanwhile reading Gertie's blog and taking her classes on Craftsy has become a custom activity, so of course when her book was released I quickly pre-ordered my copy and waited patiently for it to arrive. 

The book was everything I have expected. Gretchen has turned all her long harvested work over the years of writing the blog into accessible knowledge in a hard and (extremely cute) copy. In other words, for those of you cracking their heads alone- how to manage sewing those vintage pattern of yours or execute some of the inspired images in your head (as I used to) - this is the book for you. It has all the needed techniques in one place, and if you'll  need a bit more elaboration, just search the same subject in the Gertie's blog. 


I have read some critique about Gertie's book, mostly being around the fitting issues that people noticed in the photographs. I however totally adored that, since it showed once again that Gertie is HUMAN and can gain a little weight when she sits all day and works on her book (I did working on my thesis!) and that kind of made the book even dearer to me. I love seeing some curves on a model, I miss it a lot in the fashion world. It actually had a therapeutic value for me as a woman living in a skinny-model obsessed world.. 
The fact that I share a similar body shape with Gretchen also really helped. She based the patterns on her own and a pretty prevalent female shape, and I've noticed that I almost didn't need to make any fitting adjustments, beside length. I have worked with many pattern companies in the past and the fitting is always a big issue.

Birthday & "out of the closet" Post -" פוסט יומולדת ו"יציאה מהארון

Hello my dear friends. I am sorry I disappeared from the virtual life for a while. It has been and still is a very busy time. We are going away for a few weeks soon, so I am trying very hard to finish all of my unfinished stuff in the real world, that is a bit less patient that the blogland. I am also sewing a lot, (I have nothing to wear abroad!), so I documented lots of stuff I'll be gradually posting. In the mean while, I'd like to step out of "the closet" and introduce me (to the right) and my dear Mom (to the left). We celebrated my birthday two days ago, and I had the most wonderful day.

שלום חברים יקרים. אני מצטערת שנעלמתי קצת מהחיים הוירטאליים. אלה היו ועודם שבועות מאוד עסוקים. אנחנו נוסעים לחו"ל לכמה שבועות, ואני מנסה בכל כוחי לסיים כמה דברים בעולם האמיתי, שקצת פחות סובלני  מהבלוגוספרה. אני גם תופרת הרבה (כדי שיהיה לי מה ללבוש בטיול!) ותיעדתי כל מיני דברים שאני רוצה לדבר עליהם כבר כמה זמן.

בנתיים היתי רוצה לעשות צעד החוצה "מהארון" ולהציג את עצמי (מימין) ואת אימי היקרה (משמאלי). שלשום חגגנו לי יומולדת והיה לי אחד הימים המקסימים מזה הרבה זמן.

I love my Mom a lot. Not just as my closest flesh and blood, but as woman and a human being too. She is a lot of fun and an extremely inspirational person. The youngest in spirit as usual, she tried to convince us to go out dancing after dinner. Instead we went home and let the dog jump all over her (he is a - "hugging" dog :). I wonder are all golden retrievers like that?) Anyway, this is how my birthday ended. It started with me getting this lovely bucket from my husband -

אני אוהבת את אימא שלי מאוד. לא רק כשאר בשר הקרוב אלי ביותר אלא גם כאישה. היא נשמה גדולה ונדיבה, חזקה ומעוררת השראה בהרבה מובנים, ויחד עם זאת, צעירה ומתלהבת. אני מקווה שקיבלתי קצת מזה. הפעם היא ניסתה לשכנע אותנו ללכת לרקוד או לשמוע ג'אז אחרי ארוחת הערב (מה שבכיף הינו עושים ביום פחות ארוך..) במקום זה הלכנו הביתה ונתנו לכלב לקפוץ עליה (הוא כלב "מחבק". מנסה להתחבק כל הזמן. כל הגולדנים כאלה..?) בכל מקרה, כך היום הולדת שלי הסתיים, אבל הוא התחיל מהזר הזה שקיבלתי מאהובי- 

Then my Mom came and we started the evening with getting a royal treatment for our hands and feet at Yulia -

ואז אני ואימא נפגשנו ביוליה לטיפול שהגיע זמנו בכפות ידינו ורגלנו-

And then the three of us went to Neve Tsedeck (my favorite TA neighborhood), had a fantastic dinner at Nana-Bar -  we ordered the salmon with the asparagus risotto, Denis with the sweet potato gnocchi and the steak entrecote for the man (to our delight- all delicious!), and finished the evening with coffee and a chocolate souffle at Nina, a lovely Paris style coffee house. I wore the green dress I made several days ago- (and already wore to the designer shoe market, I have yet to post about)

ואז שלשתנו הלכתנו לנווה צדק (השכונה האהובה עלי בת"א, אלא מה..), אכלנו ארוחת ערב מופלאה בננה-בר - הזמנו סלמון על מצע ריזוטו אספרגוס, דניס על ניוקי בטטה ואנטריקוט לגבר שבחבורה (לשמחתנו הגדולה - כולם היו נהדרים!), וסיימנו את הערב על מקיאטו וסופלה שוקולד בנינה קפה הפריזאי. לבשתי את את השמלה הירוקה שתפרתי לא מזמן (וכבר לבשתי לשוק מעצבי הנעליים בשבוע שעבר, שעדיין לא כתבתי עליו)

It's made of light green cotton, with a bit of a stretch, that creates a good and comfortable fit. It wrinkles a bit, but that's the price I had to pay for making an unlined, light weight, possible to wear in August dress. I kinda like it for a change, so tired of the shapeless tricots I don't mind a little wrinkling. This dress, on the other hand, is very Madmen, and I think my figure feels at home :). There is a deep V neck which I love and an open back.

השמלה עשויה מכותנה ירוקה בעלת מעט גמישות, מה שגורם לה ללפף את הגוף בצורה יחסית הדוקה ויחד עם זאת נוחה. היא קצת מתקמטת אך זה מחיר שאני מוכנה לשלם על הבחירה לעשות שמלה קלה, ללא בטנה, שאפשר ללבוש אותה באוגוסט. והאמת שאני די אוהבת את זה לשם שינוי, כ"כ נמאס לי משמלות הטריקו נטולות הצורה, שאני מוכנה לחיות עם קצת קימוטים. השמלה הזו, לעומת זאת, מאוד מד-מן, ללא ספק, ואני חושבת ש.. איך נאמר? הגוף שלי מרגיש בבית בתוכה :). יש לה פתח V מקדימה וגב פתוח.

ShoeMaker's . not this time 

I made it mid knee, my favorite length and although the skirt is 

becoming gradually skinnier towards the knees, because of the stretch I did't need to make a vent at all. I have just enough room to walk, and it makes me take more feminine and elegant steps. A very interesting bonus  and I think, maybe the secret to Joan Holloway's cat walk. 

עשיתי אותה באורך הברכיים (אמצע הברך- האורך האהוב עלי) ולמרות שהיא נהיית צרה יותר כלפי מטה, בגלל הגמישות של הבד  יכולתי לוותר על השסע. יש לי בדיוק מספיק מרחב בשביל לצעוד, והמגבלה הזו בסוף הצעד גורמת להליכה להיות נשית ואלגנטית יותר. תופעה מאוד מעיינית ואולי הסוד מאחורי הליכתה הממגנטת של ג'ואן הולווי.

 

The red pair of shoes in the picture was the first ones I tried on, by the ShoeMaker. The are lovely, and red, but I wanted sandals, and the Shani Bar design had  just enough of the granny sex-appeal I was looking for.

הנעליים האדומות למעלה היו הזוג הראשון שמדדתי (ע"י שומייקר). הן חמודות, ואדומות, אך רציתי סנדלים ולזוג הזה של שני בר היתה בדיוק מידת הסקס- אפיל סבתאי שחיפשתי.

My new red sandals - Shani Bar's

The old pair to the right is from a lovely Givataim shop - Ester the Queen (Ester ha -Malca) and they cost a much as 12 $. The Shani Bar Sandals were on sale, and that's all the information I am willing give at the moment. That's my second pair of shoes this year (both from Shani.. (the first one was the Swan), it ok, no? Two pairs of designer shoes a year? I mean shoes are important, "it's the jewelry of the feet", as my friend Aya wisely put it. Maybe for this reason I have this infantile wish to make a shoe circle from all the shoes I have and post it, like Frollein Von Sofa here, and Miss Maple here. I haven't found a good enough reason to do so yet, just that they are pretty and deserve a post of their own:)

הזוג הישן מימין הגיע  מחנות מקסימה בגבעתיים ושמה "אסתר המלכה", והן עלו 50 ש"ח בלבד. הנעליים של שני היו במבצע, וזה כל המידע שאני מוכנה לתת ברגע זה. זה הזוג השני שלי השנה (הזוג הראשון גם היה משני, זה הברבור). שני זוגות של נעליי מעצבים בשנה זה בסדר, לא? נעליים זה חשוב, זה "התכשיטים של כפות הרגליים", כפי שחברתי איה הגדירה אותם, בחוכמה רבה. אולי בגלל זה מקוננת בי משאלה אינפנטילית לסדר את כל הנעליים שלי במעגל ולהצטלם איתן, כמו שפרוליין פון סופה או מיס מייפל עשו. עדיין לא מצאתי לזה תירוץ מספיק טוב, רק שהן יפות ומגיע להן פוסט שלם בפני עצמן..:)

So that's me:) I have now shown you my face, my dear Mom and even myself from the back. I have thought about it for a while now, since my first career might have a bit of a conflict of interests with this exposure. But I usually make my own way in anything I do, and I decided to do a. cause I want to and b. to make a point, and join a collective effort of other bloggers in promoting a healthier and a more loving body attitude among the ladies. You saw I have quite a "full moon" behind, but to tell you the truth I love it, and I love women who confidently carry their curves. I wish I could see more of this kind os aesthetics on the billboards, as I told my blogger friend Ray Segev, an Israeli plus model. Her work had a very positive influence on me. While I was going through the issues with having my pictures taken for the blog, getting over how I look on camera (two sizes bigger than a year ago), comparing that to what other bloggers I follow, look like.. I saw a picture she took lying on the beach, not trying to hide her love-handles, and that was so beautiful to me that  it worked stronger than any other rationalization. And now, by the time I have finished this post I feel even more confident and happy about my decision. I felt great wearing that dress, and that's the dresses that I would like to make. Clothes that will enhance the girl's natural goddess factor. 
So to sum it all up -"I stand behind my behind", and I invite you to do the same. 

As usual, I would love to hear your thoughts. How do you feel about your body? (Big question, I know..) What makes you feel good about your self and what makes you loose your confidence? 

אז.. זו  אני:) הראתי לכם את פניי, אימי היקרה ואפילו את עצמי מאחור:) התלבטתי לגבי זה במשך זמן מה, בעיקר משום שהקריירה הראשונה עשויה להיות בניגוד עניינים מסוים עם החשיפה. אבל אני רגילה ליצור את דרכיי, גם אם אלו עדיין לא קיימות, והחלטתי ללכת על זה. גם כי זה מעניין אותי וגם כדי להבהיר נקודה, ואולי להצטרף להמאמץ הקולקטיבי לקידום גישה בריאה ואוהבת יותר כלפי הגוף  הנשי. ראיתם  שיש לי "ירח" די מלא שם מאחור, אבל להגיד לכם את האמת אני מאוד אוהבת אותו, ואוהבת נשים שנושאות בחן ובאציליות את קימוריהן. כפי שאמרתי לידידתי הבלוגרית ריי שגב,  אשר לעבודתה היתה השפעה חיובית מאוד עליי- הלוואי והייתי יכולה לראות יותר אסתטיקה מן הסוג הזה על גבי שלטי החוצות.  בעודי מתמודדת עם הסוגיות של צילום לבלוג, מנסה לקבל את איך שאני נראית בתמונות (שתי מידות גדולה מלפני שנה), ומשווה  לאיך שבלוגריות אחרות שאני אוהבת נראות .. ראיתי תמונה שריי לקחה בעודה שוכבת על החוף לא מנסה להסתיר את הקימורים  שלה. וזה היה כל כך יפה בעיני שזה עבד חזק יותר מכל רציונליזציה אחרת. וכעת, תוך כדי שאני מסיימת את הפוסט הזה, אני כבר מרגישה בטוחה יותר ושמחה על ההחלטה שלי. הרגשתי נהדר בעודי לובשת את השמלה הירוקה שלי ואלה הן בדיוק השמלות שאני רוצה לעשות. בגדים שיגבירו את "גורם האלילה" הטבעי.

אז לסיכום :) - "אני עומדת מאחורי אחוריי", ומזמינה אתכן לעשות את אותו הדבר. כרגיל, אני אשמח לשמוע את דעתך- איך אתן  מרגישות עם הגוף שלכן? מה משפיע עליכן לטובה ומה לרעה? יש משהו שאתן אוהבות ללבוש במיוחד?
